Follow these 7 steps to complete your repair
Check the Charger and Charging Cable
Before opening your device, ensure your charger and cable are functioning. Test the charger and cable with another compatible device, if possible. If the charger or cable is faulty, replace it and test your 3DS XL again.
Remove the Back Cover
Using the Phillips #00 screwdriver, remove the screws securing the back cover of the 3DS XL. Carefully use a plastic prying tool to detach the back cover, starting from one corner and working your way around. Set the cover and screws aside safely.
Inspect the Battery Connection
Once the back cover is removed, locate the battery. Check for any loose connections or visible damage. Use tweezers to gently disconnect and reconnect the battery. If the battery appears swollen or damaged, it will need to be replaced.
Test the Charging Port
Use a multimeter to test the charging port for continuity. Set the multimeter to the continuity setting and carefully probe the connections. If there is no continuity, the charging port may be faulty and should be replaced.
Replace the Charging Port (if necessary)
If the charging port is faulty, desolder it from the board using a soldering iron (not listed in tools to keep guide simple). Replace it with a new port, ensuring all connections are secure. This step may require advanced soldering skills.
Reassemble the Device
Once repairs are complete, carefully place the battery back if it was removed and reattach the back cover. Secure it with the screws using the Phillips #00 screwdriver. Ensure all components are properly aligned before tightening the screws.
Test the Device
Connect the charger and attempt to power on the 3DS XL. Verify that the device charges and operates normally. If the issue persists, further diagnostics may be required, potentially involving a professional technician.
