Remove Ear Cushions
Gently pull off the magnetic ear cushions from the AirPods Max. They should detach easily without needing any tools. Set them aside safely.
Unscrew the Outer Ear Cup
Using the Pentalobe screwdriver (P2), carefully unscrew the screws securing the outer ear cup. Be sure to keep the screws in a safe place as they are small and easy to lose.
Detach the Ear Cup
Once the screws are removed, use a plastic opening tool to gently pry open the ear cup. Be cautious to not damage the internal wiring.
Disconnect the Driver
Use tweezers to carefully disconnect the driver cable from the circuit board. Take care not to pull or damage the cable or connector.
Remove the Old Driver
Unscrew the old driver using a Phillips screwdriver (PH00). Gently lift the driver out from the ear cup.
Install the New Driver
Place the new driver into the ear cup and secure it using the Phillips screwdriver. Make sure the driver is aligned correctly before screwing it in place.
Reconnect the Driver Cable
Using the tweezers, reconnect the driver cable to the circuit board. Ensure the connection is secure but do not apply excessive force.
Reassemble the Ear Cup
Carefully align the ear cup and use the Pentalobe screwdriver to screw it back into place. Double-check all screws are tightened.
Reattach the Ear Cushions
Snap the ear cushions back onto the ear cups. Ensure they are firmly attached and aligned correctly.
