Follow these 10 steps to complete your repair
Prepare Your Work Area
Clear a clean, well-lit workspace. Lay down an anti-static mat and wear an anti-static wrist strap to prevent static discharge. Ensure you have all tools and materials ready before you begin.
Power Off the Device
Press and hold the power button, then select 'Power Off' from the menu. Wait until the device is completely shut down before proceeding.
Heat the Edges of the Screen
Use an iOpener or hairdryer to apply gentle heat around the edges of the screen for 1-2 minutes. This softens the adhesive holding the screen in place, making it easier to remove.
Remove the Screen
Place a suction cup near the top edge of the screen. Gently pull up to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening tool into the gap. Carefully slide the tool around the edges to release the adhesive. Take care not to insert the tool too deeply to avoid damaging internal components.
Disconnect the Screen Connectors
Once the screen is loose, gently lift it and locate the connectors. Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the ribbon cables attaching the screen to the device. Set the old screen aside.
Clean the Frame
Use isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth or cotton swab to clean any remaining adhesive or debris from the frame. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before installing the new screen.
Attach the New Screen
Carefully align the new screen with the device. Reconnect the ribbon cables to the connectors, ensuring they click securely into place. Test the alignment of the screen before fully adhering it to the frame.
Secure the Screen
Apply adhesive strips or double-sided tape around the edges of the frame. Carefully press the new screen into place, ensuring a secure and even fit. Allow the adhesive to set for a few minutes.
Test the New Screen
Power on the device and test the new screen for functionality. Ensure that touch sensitivity and display clarity are as expected. If any issues arise, double-check connector seating and adhesive placement.
Reassemble the Device
Carefully reassemble any components that were moved or removed. Ensure all screws are securely fastened and the device is fully reassembled before use.
