Follow these 10 steps to complete your repair
Power Off the Device
Ensure your Pixel 8a is completely powered off. Hold down the power button and select 'Power Off' from the options. Wait for the device to shut down completely before proceeding.
Apply Heat to Soften Adhesive
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to gently warm the edges of the screen. This will soften the adhesive securing the screen to the device. Be sure to move the heat source continuously to avoid overheating any particular area.
Lift the Screen
Place a suction cup on the lower portion of the screen. Gently pull up on the suction cup to create a small gap between the screen and the body. Insert a plastic opening tool into the gap and carefully work your way around the edges to release the adhesive. Avoid inserting the tool too far to prevent damage to internal components.
Disconnect the Battery
Once the screen is lifted, identify the battery connector. Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard to eliminate any power to the device.
Remove the Old Screen
Continue to gently pry the screen away from the device, being mindful of the connectors still attached. Use tweezers to carefully disconnect any ribbon cables connecting the screen to the motherboard. Once disconnected, remove the old screen completely.
Install the New Screen
Carefully align the new screen with the device. Connect the ribbon cables to their respective connectors on the motherboard, ensuring each is securely attached. Avoid using excessive force.
Secure the New Screen
Apply new adhesive strips along the edges of the new screen. Gently press the screen into place, making sure it is aligned correctly. Apply even pressure around the edges to ensure the adhesive bonds properly.
Reconnect the Battery
Reconnect the battery connector to the motherboard using the spudger. Ensure the connection is secure. Double-check all connections before proceeding.
Test the New Screen
Power on the device to test the new screen. Check for touch responsiveness and display clarity. If everything is functioning correctly, proceed to the next step.
Final Assembly
Once you have confirmed that the new screen is working, press the screen firmly around the edges one final time to ensure it is securely attached. Clean any fingerprints or smudges off the screen using a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
