Follow these 8 steps to complete your repair
Power Off the Device
Before starting any repair, ensure your Moto G7 Play is completely powered off. Press and hold the power button, then select 'Power off' from the menu. Wait a few seconds to confirm the device is off.
Remove the Back Cover
Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry off the back cover of the phone. Start at a corner and work your way around the edges until the back cover is completely detached. Be careful not to apply too much force to avoid cracking the cover.
Unscrew the Midframe
Using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, remove all screws securing the midframe. Keep the screws organized as they will be reused. Carefully lift the midframe off the device.
Detach Battery Connector
Locate the battery connector on the motherboard and use a spudger to gently disconnect it. This step is crucial to prevent any electrical discharge while replacing the screen.
Heat and Remove the Screen
Use a heat gun or hairdryer to apply heat evenly around the edges of the screen to soften the adhesive. Be cautious not to overheat and damage the device. Once heated, use a suction cup to lift the screen slightly and insert a plastic opening tool to separate the screen from the frame. If necessary, use a spudger to carefully disconnect any cables attached to the screen.
Install the Replacement Screen
Position the new screen carefully and connect any cables that were detached during removal. Ensure the connections are secure. Test the screen before sealing by temporarily reconnecting the battery and powering on the device.
Secure the New Screen
Once confirmed the new screen works, apply adhesive strips or double-sided tape around the edges of the frame. Carefully press the screen into place, ensuring it is properly aligned.
Reassemble the Device
Reconnect the battery connector and reattach the midframe, securing it with the screws removed earlier. Finally, snap the back cover into place, ensuring all clips are engaged.
