Follow these 9 steps to complete your repair
Power Off the iPad
Before starting the repair, ensure the iPad is completely powered off. Press and hold the power button until the 'slide to power off' option appears, then slide to power off the device. Wait for the screen to go completely black.
Heat the Edges
Use a heat gun or iOpener to gently heat the edges of the iPad screen. This softens the adhesive holding the screen in place. Be careful not to overheat the device. Heat the edges evenly for about 2-3 minutes.
Lift the Screen
Place a suction cup on the lower portion of the screen and gently pull up to create a small gap. Insert an iFixit Opening Pick into the gap to prevent the adhesive from resealing. Carefully slide the pick around the edges to release the adhesive. Work slowly and patiently to avoid cracking the screen further.
Disconnect the Battery
Once the screen is loose, carefully lift it and use a spudger to disconnect the battery connector. This step is crucial to prevent any electrical short during the repair.
Remove the Screen
Use the Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the display connectors. Carefully disconnect the display connectors using the spudger. Once disconnected, remove the old screen from the device.
Clean the Adhesive
Use isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to clean any remaining adhesive residue from the frame of the iPad. Ensure the surface is smooth and clean to secure the new screen properly.
Install the New Screen
Position the new screen and connect the display connectors. Secure the connectors with the screws removed earlier. Before sealing the screen, reconnect the battery and power on the iPad to test the new display for functionality.
Seal the Screen
Once confirmed that the new screen is functioning properly, power off the device again. Apply new adhesive strips around the frame, then carefully align and press the new screen onto the device. Use the plastic opening tool to ensure the screen is properly sealed.
Final Checks
Power on the iPad to perform a final check on the screen's responsiveness and display quality. Ensure there are no loose edges or gaps. If everything is satisfactory, the repair is complete.
