Follow these 10 steps to complete your repair
Power off the iPad and remove the SIM card
First, ensure your iPad is completely powered off. Hold the power button until the 'slide to power off' option appears, and slide it to turn off the device. Remove the SIM card tray using an ejector tool or a paperclip.
Heat the edges of the screen
Use an iOpener or a heat gun to gently heat the edges of the iPad's screen. This softens the adhesive holding the screen in place. Be careful not to overheat the device, keeping the temperature around 80°C (176°F).
Lift the screen using a suction cup
Place a suction cup near the edge of the screen. Carefully pull up to create a small gap. Insert a plastic spudger or a prying pick into the gap to gently separate the adhesive. Work your way around the screen, being careful not to damage the display or internal components.
Disconnect the battery
Once the screen is loose, gently open it from one side. Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the battery connector shield. Use a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical discharge during the repair.
Remove the damaged screen
Carefully disconnect the display connectors using tweezers or a spudger. Remove any screws securing the old screen. Once all cables are disconnected, carefully lift away the damaged screen.
Clean and prepare the frame
Use isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to clean the frame, removing old adhesive residue. This ensures a clean surface for the new adhesive strips.
Install the new screen
Align the new screen and connect its cables to the iPad. Secure the connectors and any screws previously removed. Ensure the connections are firm and that the screen is properly aligned with the frame.
Seal the screen with adhesive
Apply the new adhesive strips to the perimeter of the iPad. Carefully lower the screen into place, ensuring it adheres firmly. Apply gentle pressure around the edges to secure the screen.
Reconnect the battery and test the device
Reconnect the battery connector and replace the shield with the screws. Power on the device to ensure the new screen functions properly. Check for touch responsiveness and display clarity.
Reassemble and finalize
Once functionality is confirmed, reinsert the SIM card tray. Ensure all screws and shields are securely in place. Clean the screen with a microfiber cloth to remove any fingerprints or smudges.
