Follow these 9 steps to complete your repair
Power Off the Device
Before starting the repair, make sure to completely power off your iPad. Hold the power button and slide to power off. This step is essential for safety and to prevent damage to the internal components.
Remove the Screen
Use the iOpener or heat gun to gently heat the edges of the screen, softening the adhesive. Carefully place the suction cup near the edge and gently pull to create a small gap. Insert the plastic opening tool into the gap and carefully work your way around the perimeter to loosen the adhesive. Take your time to avoid cracking the glass further or damaging internal components.
Disconnect the Battery
Once the screen is lifted, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the metal shield covering the battery connector. With a spudger, gently disconnect the battery connector to prevent any power running through the device during the repair.
Disconnect the Screen Cables
Locate and remove the screws securing the metal shield over the display cables. Carefully disconnect the digitizer and display cables using the spudger. Note the placement of each cable to ensure correct reassembly.
Remove the Broken Screen
With the cables disconnected, carefully remove the broken screen from the device. Use tweezers to remove any remaining adhesive or glass shards from the frame. Clean the area with a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol to prepare for the new screen.
Install the New Screen
Align the new screen with the frame, starting by connecting the digitizer and display cables. Secure the metal shield back over the connectors. Ensure all connections are snug and properly seated.
Reconnect the Battery
Reattach the battery connector and secure it with the metal shield. Double-check that all components are connected and the new screen is aligned correctly.
Seal the Device
Apply new adhesive strips along the frame of the iPad. Carefully press the new screen into place, ensuring a secure fit. Use the heat gun on a low setting to gently warm the edges, if needed, to ensure the adhesive sets properly.
Test the New Screen
Power on the device and test the new screen for functionality. Check the touch response, display quality, and ensure there are no dead zones or areas unresponsive to touch.
