Follow these 10 steps to complete your repair
Power Off the Device
Ensure your iPad Mini 5 is completely powered off before you begin. Hold the power button until the 'slide to power off' option appears, then slide it. Confirm the device is off by checking that the screen is completely black.
Heat and Loosen Adhesive
Use an iOpener or a heat gun to apply heat to the edges of the screen. This will soften the adhesive holding the screen in place. Be careful not to overheat, as excessive heat can damage the device. Apply heat evenly for about 2-3 minutes.
Remove the Screen
Once the adhesive is softened, use a suction cup to gently lift the screen from the frame. Insert a plastic opening tool between the screen and the frame to separate them. Work around the edges carefully to avoid damaging the internal components.
Disconnect the Battery
Remove the screws securing the battery connector using a Phillips #00 screwdriver. Carefully lift the connector using a spudger to disconnect the battery. This step is crucial to avoid short-circuiting during the repair.
Disconnect the Screen Connectors
Locate the screen connectors and use a spudger to carefully disconnect them. There may be multiple connectors, so ensure all are disconnected before proceeding. Keep track of any screws or brackets you remove.
Remove the Old Screen
Gently lift the screen away from the device, taking care not to snag any cables. Dispose of the old screen safely, as the glass may be sharp if cracked.
Install the New Screen
Align the new screen with the frame of the iPad Mini 5. Carefully reconnect the screen connectors, ensuring they are securely attached. Use adhesive strips or double-sided tape to secure the screen to the frame.
Reconnect the Battery
Reconnect the battery connector and secure it with the screws you removed earlier. This step is vital to power the device and test the new screen.
Test the New Screen
Power on the iPad Mini 5 and test the new screen for responsiveness and clarity. Check for any dead spots or issues, and ensure all functions (touch, display) work properly.
Complete the Repair
Once satisfied with the functionality of the new screen, press the screen firmly around the edges to ensure the adhesive sets. Clean the screen with a microfiber cloth to remove any fingerprints or smudges.
