Follow these 9 steps to complete your repair
Power Off and Prepare the Device
Ensure the Surface Pro 5 is completely powered off. Disconnect all external devices and cables. Place the device on a clean, flat surface covered with a soft cloth to prevent scratches.
Heat the Edges of the Screen
Use an iOpener or a heat gun to gently heat the edges of the screen to soften the adhesive. Move the heat source in a circular motion around the perimeter of the screen for about 1-2 minutes. Avoid overheating any one spot to prevent damage.
Open the Screen
Use a suction handle to gently lift the screen from one edge. Insert a plastic opening tool between the screen and the frame. Carefully work your way around the screen, using the tool to separate the adhesive. Be patient and take your time to avoid cracking the screen further.
Disconnect the Screen Cable
Once the screen is lifted, locate the display cable connector near the bottom edge. Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the cable from the motherboard. Set the old screen aside.
Prepare the Frame for the New Screen
Remove any remaining adhesive from the frame using tweezers and a spudger. Clean the area thoroughly with a microfiber cloth to ensure a smooth surface for the new adhesive strips.
Install the New Screen
Attach new adhesive strips to the frame. Align the new screen with the frame and reconnect the display cable to the motherboard. Carefully press the screen into place, ensuring a secure fit with the adhesive.
Secure and Test the New Screen
Power on the Surface Pro 5 to test the new screen. Ensure the display functions correctly and the touch sensitivity is responsive. If any issues are detected, double-check the cable connection.
Final Assembly
Press down on the edges of the screen to ensure the adhesive is fully bonded. Clean the screen with a microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints and dust.
Dispose of Old Materials Safely
Dispose of the old screen and any used materials safely and according to local regulations. Be cautious of sharp glass pieces.
