Follow these 8 steps to complete your repair
Power Down and Prepare the Device
Ensure the Surface Pro 8 is completely powered off. Disconnect any peripherals and remove the power adapter. Place the device on a clean, flat surface and ready your workspace with all necessary tools and materials.
Heat the Edges of the Screen
Using a heat gun or iOpener, gently heat the edges of the screen to soften the adhesive. Move the heat source in a circular motion, maintaining a safe distance to avoid overheating the device. Focus on one area at a time for about 1-2 minutes.
Lift the Screen
Place a suction cup on the heated edge of the screen. Gently pull up on the suction cup to create a gap between the screen and the frame. Insert a plastic opening tool into the gap and carefully work your way around the edges to loosen the adhesive. Be patient and avoid rushing this step.
Disconnect the Screen
Once the screen is free from the frame, carefully lift it without fully removing it. Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the screen connectors. Use tweezers and a spudger to carefully disconnect the ribbon cables connecting the screen to the motherboard.
Clean the Frame
With the old screen removed, use isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to clean any remaining adhesive from the frame. Ensure the surface is smooth and free of debris to ensure optimal adhesion for the new screen.
Install the New Screen
Carefully align the new screen with the frame. Reconnect the ribbon cables to the motherboard using tweezers and a spudger, ensuring a secure connection. Replace any screws that were removed during the disconnection process.
Secure the New Screen
Apply adhesive strips to the edges of the frame. Carefully position the screen over the frame, pressing down gently to ensure the adhesive bonds properly. Use a microfiber cloth to apply even pressure across the screen surface.
Test the Device
Power on the device to ensure the new screen is functioning correctly. Check for responsiveness and display issues. If everything is in order, reattach any peripherals and enjoy your repaired Surface Pro 8.
