Follow these 8 steps to complete your repair
Power Off and Remove SIM Card
Begin by powering off your Microsoft Surface 3 completely. If your device includes a SIM card, use a SIM card eject tool to remove the card and set it aside in a safe place.
Heat the Edges of the Screen
Use a heat gun or hairdryer to gently warm the edges of the screen for about 1-2 minutes. This will soften the adhesive holding the screen in place, making it easier to remove. Do not overheat, as this could damage internal components.
Separate the Screen from the Frame
Using a suction cup, carefully lift one edge of the screen until you can insert a plastic opening tool. Gently work your way around the edges, using the tool to separate the screen from the adhesive. Be patient and take care not to crack the glass further.
Disconnect the Screen Cables
Once the screen is loose, gently lift it to access the internal connectors. Use a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove any securing screws and carefully disconnect the cables using tweezers or a plastic spudger. Note the orientation and connections for reassembly.
Remove the Old Screen
With the cables disconnected, carefully lift and remove the old screen from the device. Dispose of it safely, especially if the glass is cracked.
Prepare the New Screen
Before installing the new screen, clean the edges of the device with a microfiber cloth to ensure the new adhesive will bond properly. Apply new double-sided adhesive strips along the frame of the device.
Connect and Secure the New Screen
Align the new screen with the device and reconnect the cables, ensuring they are securely attached. Replace any screws removed in Step 4. Check that the screen is aligned properly before securing it in place.
Seal and Test the New Screen
Press the new screen firmly into place along the adhesive edges. Power on the device to test the screen's functionality, checking for touch responsiveness and display quality. Reinsert the SIM card if applicable.
