Follow these 8 steps to complete your repair
Prepare Your Workspace
Ensure you have a clean, flat workspace with all necessary tools and materials within reach. Power off the Surface RT and unplug any cables. Put on anti-static gloves or an anti-static wristband to prevent electrostatic discharge damage.
Heat the Edges of the Screen
Using a heat gun or hair dryer, gently heat the edges of the screen for about 1-2 minutes. This will soften the adhesive securing the screen. Keep the heat source moving to avoid overheating any particular spot.
Remove the Screen
Place a suction cup near the edge of the screen to lift it slightly. Then, insert a plastic opening tool between the screen and the frame. Carefully pry around the edges to loosen the adhesive. Use a spudger to assist if necessary. Take your time to avoid cracking the screen further.
Disconnect the Screen
Once the screen is lifted, locate the ribbon cables connecting the screen to the motherboard. Use tweezers to disconnect these cables gently. Take note of their placement for reassembly. Remove the screen completely once disconnected.
Clean the Frame
Use a microfiber cloth to clean any remaining adhesive residue on the frame. Ensure the surface is smooth and free of debris before attaching the new screen.
Prepare and Install the New Screen
Align the new screen with the frame and reconnect the ribbon cables. Ensure the connections are secure. Apply adhesive strips or double-sided tape to the frame to secure the new screen. Press down gently to ensure a good seal.
Secure and Test the Device
Reassemble any components as needed. Power on the Surface RT to test the new screen's functionality. Check for touch responsiveness and display clarity. If everything is functioning correctly, press the screen firmly along the edges to ensure it's fully adhered.
Final Cleanup
Clean the screen with a microfiber cloth to remove any fingerprints or smudges. Dispose of the old screen and any leftover materials safely.
